“To prepare individuals of all ages for successful employment in the ever-changing workforce of the region and beyond”.

A new year at Southern Hills CTC

As we begin another school year at Southern Hills Career and Technical Center, our campus might look a little bit different. Last year we underwent a building project, adding 10,000 sq. ft. of new classroom space on the west side of the building, and inside we added a new healthcare lab, a new advanced manufacturing lab as well as increasing the cafeteria.  All of this was made possible as a result of two grants from the State of Ohio aimed at increasing Career and Technical Education opportunities across Ohio.

It isn’t often that a school district can make a $7 million increase to their facilities without asking the taxpayers for more money, but as a result of the Career Tech Expansion grant and the Career Tech Equipment grant, of which SHCTC was fortunate to receive both, we have been able to do just that.  What made Southern Hills able to receive these grant dollars was our rapid increase in student enrollment.  In a little over 10 years Southern Hills has more than doubled our student enrollment – with the majority of that growth happening since the pandemic.

Our service area, Brown County and the Bright Local School District in southern Highland County, has long been a community that has great appreciation for hard work.  Fortunately, more and more families are viewing Southern Hills, and Career Technical Education as a viable option for their children to pursue.  Choosing the Career Center is no longer viewed as limiting a student’s option to leaving high school directly into the workforce, but rather a choice that expands a student’s options to include, entering the skilled trades, attending college, enlisting in our armed forces or even launching one’s own business.

The new school year is not only for school-aged kids.  Southern Hills adult education arm, The Brown and Clermont Adult Career Campuses is a growing and expanding educational option for adults of all ages offering skilled training in a variety of locations and in a variety of different career fields.  The Brown and Clermont Adult Career Campuses is an education partnership with US Grant Career Center, and we encourage anyone interested in learning more to reach out, or visit the website at: www.bccareer.org

As time moves forward, and the marketplace changes, Southern Hills must also change and evolve.  Our program offerings and curriculum are always adjusting and responding to the needs of business and industry.   If you ever want to know more about Southern Hills, please contact us at:  (937) 378-6131 or visit us at: www.shctc.us
