Wednesday, September 2nd is a big day at SHCTC. This will mark the last day for students to return to their home districts or for students at the home districts to decide to come to SHCTC. This will be the last day to make requests for schedule changes; as well as, the last day to change a students status from fully online, 50/50, or traditional schooling. Furthermore, Wednesday will also be the day that teachers and administrators will expect all students to be in full uniform attire (we will be understanding of students awaiting shirt orders from uniform vendors). Looking forward to seeing all the students dressing the part and working hard on Wednesday!
SHCTC student drivers- Please note that due to the potential for sever weather tomorrow morning (Friday, August 28th) you will be able to pick up your breakfast at the building located in the student parking lot. #loveshctc
Who else has their superintendent deliver breakfast to them in the parking lot? #loveshctc

Good Evening! Tomorrow, August 25th all SHCTC juniors and seniors will be in session. Today all juniors were in the building which allowed us to see that we need to adjust a few things- student entry into the building, breakfast and lunch procedures.
We will open up two entry points into the building. Students who are driving to Southern Hills will be using the side entrance. They will able to pick up their breakfast in the parking lot. They will be released to enter the building at approximately 8:05 a.m. and will be asked to go directly to their first period class. All other students will use our front entrance and will eat breakfast in the designated area for his/her respective lab.
Instead of delivering lunches to students we will be trying social distancing in a traditional lunch line format.
Thanks for being patient with us as we adjust and readjust for the benefit of our students. We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
Good evening SHCTC families! On behalf of all the staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2020-21 school year. A few announcements regarding the start of school tomorrow. First and foremost only students on a junior schedule will be in session tomorrow Monday, August 24. All juniors and seniors will be in session on Tuesday August 25. Please note that we are operating on Tier 1 learning in which students are attending school in the five day a week, traditional school format. That is unless other arrangements have been pre-planned and approved by SHCTC Student Services. Students may arrive between 7:30 and 8:00am. In following the governors mandate all students must be wearing a mask. Staff will be on hand to help with answering questions, finding classes, and assuring that students are safe. We hope you are looking forward to tomorrow as much as we are. See you soon!

TK Whaley receives first John G. Lightner (‘80) Memorial Scholarship
The first recipient of the John G. Lightner (‘80) Memorial Scholarship is TK Whaley. The family of John Lightner presented the first scholarship to TK on July 29, 2020. TK is the son of Derek and Tammy Whaley of Aberdeen. TK is a 2020 graduate of Ripley Union Lewis Huntington High School who attended the Welding Program at Southern Hills Career and Technical Center. TK’s love for the outdoors has led him to pursue a career that keeps him in nature. He will be attending Hocking College this fall where he will be enrolled in the Wildlife Resource Management program
John G. Lightner was a 1980 graduate of Ripley-Union-Lewis High School. He completed the Welding Program at Southern Hills Career and Technical Center, formerly known as the Southern Hills Joint Vocational School, before beginning a lifelong career in machine operation. His wife Kristi (‘79) and daughter Karli (‘10) are also RULH graduates. John was well-known in the community as a hardworking man with a strong work ethic. He was always willing to help a friend or neighbor in need, and he never met a stranger as he was a friend to all.
One Ripley student who graduates from the SHCTC will be selected for this one-time scholarship each year. This scholarship may be used for students to further their education at a college, university, or trade school, or to assist in purchasing supplies and equipment for those ready to enter the workforce. Congratulations, TK!
